Meet Dr. Ryu

Dr. Steven Ryu, DMD (Specialty No. 5991)

Dr. Steven Ryu earned his BA from the Cornell University in 1991. He earned his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine in 1995. While he was at Penn, he completed externships in various hospitals around the region, including Veterans Hospital in Philadelphia and the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania.

After earning his DMD, he served in the military as a dentist and worked in private practice. He received his endodontic specialty certificate from the University of Pennsylvania, as well. While earning his specialty certificate, he served as an instructor in the endodontic microsurgery course, where dentists and endodontists from around the world would come to learn the techniques of endodontic microsurgery. In addition, Dr. Ryu holds a Master’s degree in dental material science.

Dr. Ryu taught as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Endodontics at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Pennsylvania where he instructed dental students and endodontic residents in treatment, treatment planning, and patient management.

Dr. Ryu firmly believes in gentle dentistry, considering patients’ comfort to be the most important aspect in the treatment, and makes every effort to achieve that goal. He takes time to listen to patients, understand their concerns, and address them. He has experience in all aspects of modern conventional and surgical endodontics.

Dr. Ryu is married and has a teenage son. When he is not working, he enjoys traveling and reading nonfiction books.
